Mount Fuji rises 3,776 meters above sea level and is the highest mountain in Japan.
Mount Fuji is made up of four volcanoes. The Senkomitake Volcano was created more than several hundred thousand years ago, and then on top of it, the Komitake Volcano, the Kofuji Volcano and Shinfuji Volcano were created and overlapped each other by subsequent eruptions. In this way, Mount Fuji formed the beautiful conical shape that we can see today.
As a side note, the last time Mount Fuji erupted was in 1707, about 300 years ago.
The period in which you can climb Mount Fuji is only two months, from early July to early September, but even if you don't climb the mountain, you can enjoy beautiful views in all four seasons from various points at the base of the mountain.

Since ancient times, Japanese people have both feared and respected Mount Fuji because of its repeated violent eruptions, and as a mountain where a deity lives. People have also worshipped the mountain in various ways, such as worshipping it from afar, climbing it to practice asceticism, and visiting sacred places at the base of the mountain.
In addition, many people have expressed the beauty of Mount Fuji in various artworks, such as poems and paintings.
In recognition of this cultural value, Mount Fuji was registered as a World Cultural Heritage Site in 2013 under the name "Fujisan, sacred place and source of artistic inspiration".
Of the 25 cultural properties (constituent assets) that represent the value of World Heritage Mount Fuji, six are located in Fujinomiya City.
